In which I write about how much I respect Turquoise Jeep

falconpunched:

Dear Truman SAB,

I am so disgusted that you are bringing the group ‘Turquoise Jeep’ to perform for us this semester. First, I was confused and thought that one of your had blown your money on a car and I was a little miffed. Then I found out that you actually brought a group to Truman who’s main…

What a wet blanket. :\

I guess there’s no mentioning songs like “Ooh Ahh Sound” where he sings about how he wishes he and his girl spent more time together, even though they have other obligations like work and stuff, and how he tries his best to give her the attention she needs/wants.

Anyways, the messages of the songs are not really the point. Turquoise Jeep Records is significant in that they’re completely internet-based, and it becomes increasingly clear that this is the direction in which a lot of up-and-coming musicians and TV-type personalities are going. Their success is very indicative of a turning point in entertainment.

In addition, their music is only a part of their appeal. Of course, what is appealing ABOUT the music aspect is that they don’t use vulgar language but rather colorful euphemisms that somehow manage to sound even more sexual. It’s definitely more inventive than a lot of music out there.

Another large aspect of their appeal is that each singer (Flynt Flossy, Young Humma, Slick Mahoney, & co.) has a distinct character and appearance, and each is a brand onto himself. Instead of taking themselves way too seriously, they play up their styles and defining voices. Yes, they are actually all very talented musically, but they also establish a purpose and mood for each person’s voice to be more memorable.

Furthermore, they gained popularity through their very silly music videos, with their screen wipes, zoom-in-zoom-out camera moves, and very obvious green screens (gotta love AfterEffects). The girls in their videos are indeed attractive and pretty, but not in the conventional-RnB-music-video-36-24-36 kind of way. They look like they could be the singers’ girlfriends, sisters, friends, or even friends of friends. They’re also a wonderfully diverse group of girls, and I’m pretty sure no girl is repeated from song to song.

But I can totally get that this girl’s tight about having her money indirectly support bringing them to her school when that’s not what she wants.
